Meet the staff
Emily trained as a midwife after completing a degree in Women’s Studies and Religious Studies. She has worked as an Independent midwife, an NHS hospital midwife and as a community midwife linked to rural birth centres.
Emily has trained in Active Birth, Yoga in Pregnancy, Aquanatal, Shiatsu for Midwives www.wellmother.org Reiki and Infant Massage www.iaim.org.uk
Emily has been actively involved in environmental, peace and ecofeminist projects for over 20 years and worked in conservation and environmental education with both adults and children before training as a midwife in 1999.
Emily was drawn to midwifery because of the fusion of the miraculous and the everyday. She is passionate about women reclaiming the innate wisdom of their bodies and facilitating birth to be an empowering process for everyone involved. She believes that a peaceful, healing birth has the potential to help heal the Earth and create peace in the world. Emily established Heaven and Birth to provide birth preparation that was creative, holistic and nourishing on every level and to include a spiritual dimension which is so important at this life changing time.
As well as being a midwife, Emily is also an Interfaith Minister and spiritual counsellor www.interfaithfoundation.org She lives in Dorset and has two young sons.

Elizabeth Wolfenden BA(Hons) ADM RM
Lizzie is a midwife with a background in performance and teaching.
She gained a 1st class honours degree in Music and Visual Arts from Brighton University. She then trained as a voice coach and for several years, taught at the Dharma School (the only Buddhist primary school in the UK).
Lizzie has spent 4 years doing sacred clowning http://www.sacred-clown-as-healer.co.uk including clowning in hospitals. Lizzie is a talented musician and singer and regularly performs her own compositions.
She is passionate about teaching, whether it is belly dancing for pregnant teenagers or stress management workshops for midwives and has a natural gift in creating safe space where people feel comfortable to just BE themselves.
Lizzie has studied with Michel Odent, Ina May Gaskin, Pam England (Birthing From Within) and Suzanne Yates at Well Mother www.wellmother.org Lizzie is a qualified Holistic Childbirth Educator www.holisticbirthtrust.org and is trained in fertility awareness and Natal Hypnotherapy www.natalhypnotherapy.co.uk
After qualifying as a midwife in 2005 Lizzie has worked as an Independent Midwife and Maternity Nurse in the UK, Europe and America .
At present Lizzie lives partly in France and partly in the UK. As well as working for Heaven and Birth, she is branching out into freelance journalism and living a simple life…getting simpler.

Nick is the father of two children, now both in their twenties. He is employed by local authorities and charitable trusts to train social, care and health workers in using creativity and specialising in developing an awareness of fathering and the significance of fathers.
For over 30 years he has worked throughout Britain, Europe and America enabling families and communities from socially deprived areas to use creativity to develop self-esteem, confidence and parenting skills.
He is presently touring Britain with a one-man show, titled “The Missing Links” which explores concepts around spiritual masculinity and the need for supervised rites of passage.
He is acknowledged as a leading expert on rites of passage, and has written and made documentary films about the subject.

Lizzie and Emily are both members of the Association of Radical Midwives www.radmid.demon.co.uk/ and have run workshops at various summer festivals including Glastonbury, The Big Chill and Buddhafield as part of Emergence, the Radical Midwives Festival Yurt.
