BlessingwaysAs well as being an Interfaith Minister I am also a midwife and mother and so know first hand how life-changing the process of pregnancy and childbirth can be and feel that supporting women through this miraculous yet everyday experience is perhaps the most important part of my work. A Blessingway is an ancient ceremony which honours and celebrates the transition into motherhood. Blesingways are about bestowing blessings on the mother and unborn child but they are also to give support, courage and love to the journey a woman is about to undertake through labour, birth and new motherhood. A Blessingway usually takes place in the woman’s home, but could be at a friend’s house or outside. Often it is an all women event, with the pregnant woman’s close friends and family. Sometimes a woman might wish her partner and/or older siblings to be involved for some or all of the ceremony. Highly recommended for any woman expecting a baby or before adoption. If you are expecting a baby, you may also be interested in attending one of the workshops or retreats that I run for pregnant women and couples which offer a deeper preparation for birth and parenting. Rites of Passage I often work alongside Nick Clements who has many years experience in working with rites of passage for boys and fathers. Ceremony can also be helpful to mark the transitions which are important in our modern lives: for example leaving school or graduating from college / university, starting a new job or moving house. Contact me if you would like to discuss creating a ceremony for your particular life event. |
